ZIP Viewer

Open a .zip in your browser to list every file and size, check it against hosting limits, and deploy it to a live URL. Nothing is uploaded until you deploy.

Drop a .zip here Or a folder. It's opened in your browser; nothing is uploaded unless you deploy.

How to use it

  1. Drop a .zip on the box, or choose one. A folder works too.
  2. See every file with its size and where it would be served, plus the totals against the limits.
  3. If everything passes, press Deploy this zip to get a live link without an account.

The zip is opened in your browser: its list of files is read without unpacking anything, and nothing is uploaded unless you deploy.

What it checks

The ZIP Viewer runs the same checks as npx lobsite and the dashboard, for a deploy without an account:

  • The top folder. A zip that holds a single folder (my-site/index.html) is deployed from inside it. A project with a package.json and a dist/, build/, out/, _site/ or public/ folder deploys that folder.
  • Files that are left out. Secret-looking files (.env, private keys, .npmrc and similar), anything under _lobsite/, and .git, node_modules and .DS_Store are never deployed.
  • Blocked types. PDFs and executables (.exe, .dmg, .apk and others) need the paid plan.
  • Limits. Up to 500 files, 5 MB per file and 50 MB in total without an account. See all limits.
  • A home page. Without index.html at the top, the site's address would show nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Is my zip uploaded when I open it?

No. It's read in your browser. Files are sent to Lobsite only when you press Deploy this zip, and only the ones that pass.

Why is a file crossed out?

It would be left out of the deploy: a file that looks like a secret, a path under _lobsite/, a .git or node_modules folder, or a file outside the build folder.

My zip is bigger than 25 MB. How do I deploy it?

This page sends up to 25 MB in one request. Unzip it and run npx lobsite in the folder, or sign in and drop the zip on the dashboard, which uploads files one by one.

Can I open a zip that isn't a website?

Yes. The file list works for any zip; the deploy checks only matter if you want to put it online.
