# Host a website made with ChatGPT

ChatGPT wrote the HTML; get it online at a real address. Paste the code and publish in one click, or connect Lobsite so ChatGPT publishes it for you.

On the web at https://lobsite.com/hosting/chatgpt

```text
https://lobsite.com/api/mcp
```

The connector URL, for ChatGPT's custom connectors (developer mode).

ChatGPT can write a complete website in a single answer, but the answer is a block of code in a chat. Paste that code in the box above and press **Publish this page**: you get a real address to send people, with HTTPS, and you don't need an account to try it.

## How it works

1. **Ask for one file.** "Make a one-page website for my bakery as a single HTML file, with the CSS and JavaScript inside it."
2. **Copy the code** with the copy button on ChatGPT's code block (or from the canvas), and paste it in the box above.
3. **Publish it.** The page is live in seconds at a `*.lobsite.app` address for 6 hours; **Keep it free →** keeps it for good in a free account.

## Prompts that publish cleanly

ChatGPT's first draft often splits the page into several files or links to files that don't exist. A few words in the prompt avoid that:

- **"As a single HTML file"** keeps the CSS and JavaScript inside the page, so there's one thing to paste.
- **"No build step, no npm"**: a React or Vite project needs building before it's a website. If ChatGPT already gave you one, build it (`npm run build`) and drop the `dist` folder in the **Drop files** tab instead.
- **"Load libraries from a CDN by full https URL"**: Tailwind, Chart.js or Alpine work when they're loaded that way.
- **"Use placeholder images from full URLs"**, or put your own images next to the HTML in a folder and drop the folder.

Want to check it before publishing? The [HTML Viewer](https://lobsite.com/tools/html-viewer) shows the page at desktop, tablet and phone widths as you edit.

## Let ChatGPT publish it: a custom connector

ChatGPT can call Lobsite itself through a custom connector, a remote MCP server. In ChatGPT's settings, with developer mode on, create a connector with this URL:

```text
https://lobsite.com/api/mcp
```

Then, in a chat with the connector enabled, ask "Publish this page with Lobsite". ChatGPT sends the page through the `deploy_files` tool and answers with the address and the claim link. Which ChatGPT plans can add custom connectors is up to OpenAI; copying and pasting works on every plan, including free. More on the [MCP page](https://lobsite.com/mcp).

## Sharing the chat, or publishing a site

| | Share the ChatGPT chat | Publish on Lobsite |
|---|---|---|
| What people see | The conversation, with the code in it | The website itself |
| Works on a phone like a site | No | Yes |
| Your own images and pages | No | Yes: drop a folder |
| A contact form that emails you | No | Yes, once the site is in an account |
| Custom domain | No | Paid plan, coming soon |
| Account needed | Your ChatGPT account | No for 6 hours; free to keep |

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it free to host a ChatGPT website?

Yes. Publishing without an account is free for 6 hours, and a free account keeps one site for good with 10 GB of bandwidth a month.

### ChatGPT gave me several files. What do I do?

Save them in one folder with the same names ChatGPT used (`index.html`, `style.css`, `script.js`), then drop the folder in the **Drop files** tab. Or ask ChatGPT to merge them into a single HTML file and paste that.

### The page is blank after publishing. Why?

Usually it's React or TypeScript code that needs a build first, or a script loaded from a file that wasn't included. Ask ChatGPT for a single self-contained HTML file, or build the project and drop the `dist` folder.

### Can I change the page later?

Yes. Paste the new version in this browser and press **Update**: the same address shows it. After you keep the site, deploy changes from the dashboard or with `npx lobsite`.

### Is the page private?

No: anyone with the address can open it, so don't publish anything you wouldn't share. Temporary sites aren't indexed by search engines.
